Mission San Rafael Rotary Dictionaries
Mission San Rafael Rotary distributed dictionaries to St. Raphael and Glenwood 3rd graders.
We had the help of Sandy Schach at St. Raphael and Janie Burtch at Glenwood. The great 3rd graders of St. Raphael and Glenwood were very excited to receive their own dictionaries. Many of them remember their older siblings receiving their own dictionaries in years prior. One student thanked us for her own dictionary and stated she would no longer have to use her grandma’s huge, heavy dictionary anymore.
A special thank you to the St. Raphael teacher Francesca Previtali and the Glenwood teachers Angela Hood, Kim Goodhope, Tanya Osorio/Pauline Stone, Jennifer Conte and Bill Skieresz. Each of the following Rotarians cheerfully and enthusiastically participated with the delivery and presentation of the dictionaries: Terri Carillo, Mikol Davis, Ken Franceschi, Marijane Guy, Steve Hill, Carl Ilg, and Mark Lachtman. The pictures show the joy, smiles and dictionaries we shared.

Rotary is an organization of business people who volunteer their time, talents, friendship, and funds to better the community they live in through their local Rotary Club, and to better the rest of the world through Rotary International. For example, Rotary International is the prime force in the effort to eradicate polio worldwide. As an organization Rotary has over 1.3 million members worldwide.
Each Rotary club has a personality and Mission San Rafael Club boasts a ‘renowned’ Kazoo Band, the development of Rotary Island, and, capping it off, origination of Project Tooth Fairy.
Join us for lunch and see what Rotary at Mission San Rafael is like. We serve with fun. Our luncheon meetings feature speakers from the community on topics of interest to all who live here.
If you have questions contact the Club President.
Youth Exchange Student Graduates!!
What a Wonderful Day!!! Our Italian Exchange Student graduated from San Rafael High School with honors and with lots of new friends surrounding her. Arianna arrived in August 2011, not knowing anyone and being far, far from her family and from everything she knows. All of us are so proud of her for the ease with which she joined her first host family, the Chiarollas and then the second family, the Ortega-Kennisons! While here, Ary met many other Rotary Youth Exchange students from around the world and some of them will surely become lifelong friends.
Our Club is truly happy to have supported Ary through this life-changing year as she represented her country and Rotary really well in everything she did. Lastly, we would like to thank the Chiarollas and Ortega-Kennisons for being wonderful parents to Ary, including her in every way, just like a true family member. Rotary Club of Mission San Rafael is grateful for all of their kindness!
For those who don't know: the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program is the world's largest not-for-profit exchange program, enabling more than 8000 young people to live in another country for a year. This is a life-changing opportunity for these kids and we are so glad to be able to support them at this time in their lives.

Sunset Cruise with Marin Center for Independent Living
For the second year in a row, the Rotary Club of Mission San Rafael sponsored a wonderful Sunset Cruise on the Angel Island Ferry for the clients and staff of the Marin Center for Independent Living. Last year was our first year and we had a total of 23 people join in the fun.
This year? 51 people of all ages and abilities came on board for the 1.5 hour cruise ---- including 4-month old Olivia! Everyone enjoyed the hospitality of the Angel Island Ferry crew (thank you Captain Maggie), and we gave thanks for the wonderful weather on a beautiful June evening out on the Bay. We are very fortunate to be able to work together with MCIL to make this a special evening for so many people! For more information, please see:
