On Thursday, May 19, 2011, Mission San Rafael Rotary presented their annual Teacher Of The Year Awards. This year's recipients are:
Kathy Murray was joined by her husband, Jim Murray, and her three lovely daughters, Jill Murray, Audrey Murray, Brittney Murray. Father Paul Rossi, acting principal Linda Engstrom, and incoming principal Lydia Collins were also present to support and honor Kathy Murray. Linda Engstrom spoke words of praise regarding Kathy as the one and only person who could have filled a very special need in St. Raphael's education system and in the hearts of so many lucky children. Kathy Murray spoke of her love of sharing her passion with the children and her thanks for the love and support of the church, and especially Father Paul Rossi, and the community as her husband battled and survived cancer within the last decade. Kathy expressed her sincere gratitude and appreciation for this award. Susanne Isom was joined by her daughter, Monique Isom, principal Bob Marcucci, and Matthew Ilg, a former student of Mrs. Isom's and now a 4th grader at Glenwood Elementary School. Principal Bob Marcucci spoke of the sincere and never-ending joy which Susanne Isom brings to the classroom each day. Bob shared how Susanne starts each day with songs on the piano with the children and also teaches them sign language. Susanne shared her long and most enjoyable journey as a teacher including her years in Salem, OR and in San Rafael, CA. Twice widowed, Susanne loves teaching and lives a fuller life by giving and receiving so much love and knowledge with her students and the wonderful families she gets to interact with.
Susanne's daughter, Monique, simply expressed a "Finally! It s about time someone recognized my mom as teacher of the year!".
