For the second time this year, four teams of Rotary Club of Mission San Rafael members (Culley Casey & John Rickards, Susanne Karch & Carl Ilg, Mike Green and Matt Broadway, Cal Farnsworth and Jack Wilkinson) worked with no less than five San Rafael Fire Department Engine Companies and 15 Fire Inspectors & Fire Marshalls to install high-end smoke & carbon monoxide detectors in the homes of 54 San Rafael Seniors. And what a true Community Service event it was! That brings our 2011 total of detectors installed to 83! We were able to spread the word with the assistance of the Marin Scope, Marin IJ and Pacific Sun newspapers publishing free Public Service Announcements as well as placement in the St. Raphaels Church bulletin. San Rafael Fire Department Fire Chief Chris Gray was able to get these brand new detectors at a discount and Bill Perin (another Mission San Rafael Rotary member) generously donated all necessary batteries from his store, Batteris Plus on Miracle Mile in San Rafael. It is the assistance of people like this that allows us to continually serve and more seniors each year. We are truly grateful to everyone for working together so wonderfully in providing this important and possibly life-saving service!! |
